I hope this site becomes a place for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. I want to raise consciousness about issues and stories that don't always make the headlines. I believe that global awareness makes a person smarter and ultimately more human. I'm grossed out by what some "news" outlets masquerade as news. It seems that so many of these outlets cover international stories only when there's catastrophe or war. It's a shame.

There are so many fascinating people doing important things out there. As a journalist I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world. I want this to be a place for everyone to find out about people and organizations that I've encountered that are doing good work. I'd like to share some of my experiences and invite all of you to share your thoughts and stories you think should be told. Let's expand our horizons together!

History was made tonight...
As a people, we yearn for a kind of leadership of which our country has been devoid for nearly a decade. By nominating BO, we recognize that man is not God, he cannot perform miracles. But what he can do is touch a cord in people's hearts and in their minds and provoke them to become better people. He reminds us of our responsibility to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He asks us to think of all children as our own as they are our future. He promotes diplomacy over senseless death. He embodies hope, peace, dignity and decency. We should be so lucky to have him represent us in the world.

although, i am a supporter of Obama, let's be honest, all the canadiates are just talking the talk, how do you begin to trust that?

i agree to a certain extent. Even though he can reach out to the people of our country, it doesn't neccessarily mean that through his actions and words, there will be change. Change comes from within, and not everyone is on the same page.

Lisa, you have a way with words that is unparalleled and I love to read your posts. However, maybe "BO" is not necessarily the best abreviation for our future president Barak. 8-)

I don't see Hillary working overly hard to get Obamam elected. After all, her goal is the White House in 2012. Her only other option is to support Obama, or try to get VP and run in 2016. She may not have the patience.

Well said. In the meantime, I do think a few words are in order about Hillary.

Hillary Clinton, while not exactly everyone's picture of integrity (certainly not mine at this point), is still a tenacious opponent; one to, at some level, be respected. A primary season can abruptly end at any time; the media and the voters can slam the brakes on any semblance of competition after virtually any primary in the schedule. And yet here we stand; Hillary only being KO'ed after Indiana and North Carolina, and even then, even now, she's stuck around in a large enough capacity to apply heavy pressure to be taken on as VP. On some level, I have to show some grudging respect.

There is little for the Hillary supporters to be ashamed or disappointed of, especially from, let's be reminded, the first ever serious female candidate for President. Even in the loss, Hillary made a strong enough showing to open the door for other women. Just because she wasn't able to pull it off herself does not mean other women can't pick up the torch in future campaigns. Especially since the person who beat her was the first serious black candidate for President. And Bill Richardson- remember him- opened the door for Hispanic candidates even though he failed to win any delegates.

This is the modern Democratic Party. In the same election, you have a woman, an African American and a Hispanic all mounting the first serious campaigns for their respective demographics. Elsewhere on Capitol Hill, the Democrats field a Buddhist, two Muslims, several Jews, an athiest, gays, and a lesbian. All that's really left is the transgender crowd. The door is essentially open to any American at all that thinks they're good enough to run.

And meanwhile, in the Republican Party, the door is not nearly as open- all 10 candidates were white males. There are minorities, but not nearly as viable and not nearly as numerous. Some are actively discriminated against.

Even if they don't like Obama, the Hillary supporters should stick around and not rashly flock to McCain, who shares very few of Hillary's values, for that reason. Hillary didn't make it this time. It doesn't always happen on the first try. But there will be other women, other champions for the cause. All they have to do is spend the next 4-8 years finding one, and it will be much easier to find a Democrat who will be ready to run in that time. (Although if they chose to back Olympia Snowe in 2012, they could do far worse than that.)
