I hope this site becomes a place for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. I want to raise consciousness about issues and stories that don't always make the headlines. I believe that global awareness makes a person smarter and ultimately more human. I'm grossed out by what some "news" outlets masquerade as news. It seems that so many of these outlets cover international stories only when there's catastrophe or war. It's a shame.

There are so many fascinating people doing important things out there. As a journalist I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world. I want this to be a place for everyone to find out about people and organizations that I've encountered that are doing good work. I'd like to share some of my experiences and invite all of you to share your thoughts and stories you think should be told. Let's expand our horizons together!

I am seething!
Please hit read more to see my response to this editorial by former UN Ambassador John Bolton entited, "Obama the Naive."

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-bolton5-2008jun05,0,3337939.story
Naive is plunging into a war that we thought we could win overnight--that we'd be "greeted as liberators." Naive was not anticipating the consequences of emboldening Iraq's Shiites. Naive was not rooting out Bin Laden from day one. Naive was putting our eggs in Ahmed Chalabi's basket. Naive was allowing Musharraf to play both sides. Naive was not anticipating Iran's involvement in Iraq.
Ambassador Bolton exemplifies the cowboy rhetoric that has led to thousands of deaths and has engendered disdain for America around the world. Not to mention the fact that we have spent billions of dollars and are bleeding debt at the expense of real homeland security.

Keep in mind: Bolton was a member of the Bush Administration. Everything/anything he says has neither credibility nor is based in reality. Never has a bigger group of liars and criminals ever been assembled in the US than the Bushies. Relax, keep your blood pressure down, and just think that in a few months this nightmare will be over.

History is an interesting subject. To compare Iran, Cuba, etc. to the USSR does not equal in comparison, as Obama stated. To compare the state of the country now and then does not either.
Using history in this argument makes it a fallacy, because it never repeats itself exactly the same way.
With that out of the way, let's look at the Middle East. Orientalism has ruled this country for far too long. We cannot change the region's mindset at ALL. When we fight them they win because they WANT to die.

Obama is forging a new path--diplomacy. What an idealistic concept, right?

What Bolton cannot wrap his head around is a leader that uses reason. One that would give up $84.5 million in campaign finance from the fed in order to sleep with a guilt-free conscience at night.

A leader that would sit down and really listen to the opposition. A man that would defend our country with intellect and tact--something we have lost. Who gives a crap if he's knew to the political game. That's better for the American people. We don't want a politician running this country. We want a leader.

Bolton has no business being an ambassador of anything if he does not believe in the power of diplomacy.

I don't see things as so black and white, and think the truth lies somewhere in between. History will judge these events, including if Obama does become President and whether he has enough experience. Lately, from what I've seen from Obama, his proposed economic policy could put this country in even dire straights. I think he has some great ideas, but I believe overall he will sink this country even further due to lack of experience. Not that I think we have very good alternatives to him...

I don't see how this is an issue to get quite so upset about...it is just John Bolton.

On the other hand, naive seems like it could be a natural term to describe someone who is so new to the political arena. I'm not endorsing the statement, but looking at Obama's political record, I really don't see naivety being so far-fetched.

Bolton's barely even worth the breath, Lisa. A guy who says you could remove 10 floors of the UN building and lose nothing in the translation has absolutely no business calling himself an ambassador or saying jack squat about diplomacy and enough people know it to where he's got zero credibility.
