I hope this site becomes a place for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. I want to raise consciousness about issues and stories that don't always make the headlines. I believe that global awareness makes a person smarter and ultimately more human. I'm grossed out by what some "news" outlets masquerade as news. It seems that so many of these outlets cover international stories only when there's catastrophe or war. It's a shame.

There are so many fascinating people doing important things out there. As a journalist I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world. I want this to be a place for everyone to find out about people and organizations that I've encountered that are doing good work. I'd like to share some of my experiences and invite all of you to share your thoughts and stories you think should be told. Let's expand our horizons together!

McCain
As a woman, having control over my body is an issue of great importance to me. Therefore, I cannot imagine voting for John McCain. But, I think he's a man of decent character and would lead the country differently than George Bush. Thought this editorial in the NYTimes by David Brooks was interesting vis and vis the war: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/28/opinion/28brooks.html?scp=3&sq=brooks&st=nyt

While I am afraid he is going to perpetuate a war that's unwinnable, he seems to be respectfully soliciting the leadership in other countries for assistance. It's not the same kind of arrogance that we have been accustomed to over the last eight years.

Though the process has gone on for too long, we will soon have two candidates on both sides who will hopefully employ a sense of humility and reason to the race.

Hi Lisa, I love you and work you do.

I do have to tell you though, that regarding abortion, a woman does have the right to control whether she gets pregnant or not. That is where the control lies. Once she chooses to have sex, she has chosen potential pregnancy and must therefor deal with the consequences. The only time that abortion could even be considered a viable possibility is if the mother's life is in danger by carrying a baby to term.

Regardless of when you believe life begins, the potential for life begins with fertilization and if you take that away, you have taken that life.

Yeah so the argument becomes when does the baby become a citizen? When does it begin to have rights. Period any other argument is moot. The way I see it if it can't live on it's own it isn't a citizen yet.

This is the ONLY reason you would vote for john Mc Cain?Nothing else?It is this type of reasoning that allowed Bush to get into power AND get relected. We need real change instead of doing the shell game.People need to turn off American idol, get the chipotle burritto out of their mouths and start using some brain cells.

wow. first let me lick the burrito grease off my fingers.... ok, yes, it would not be wise to vote for him solely on this issue. i will definitely look at the big picture and to be honest, i wasn't meaning i would vote for mccain but was rather making a point about my position on abortion. sorry for the misunderstanding, "guest."

p.s. david archuleta still my bet.
p.p.s. hi lisa. still glad i'm here? :)

i also consider control over my body to be an important issue. i don't, however, believe that an unborn child is my body. it's IN my body, but is not my body. i find it intersting how the law "struggles" when it comes to the identity of an unborn child. scott peterson was charged with a double murder. is a surrogate mother's unborn child her body?

this is not to say i do not sympathize with women who are faced with a difficult unwanted pregnancy. my heart goes out to them and i do not judge them for their final decisions. but, as much as i understand them, i don't believe it is the right decision. this would probably be the only reason i would vote for john mc cain...

i have your "sex workers or victims" recorded and plan to watch soon... also, watched your segment on the view---loved those clips from old episodes!
