I hope this site becomes a place for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. I want to raise consciousness about issues and stories that don't always make the headlines. I believe that global awareness makes a person smarter and ultimately more human. I'm grossed out by what some "news" outlets masquerade as news. It seems that so many of these outlets cover international stories only when there's catastrophe or war. It's a shame.

There are so many fascinating people doing important things out there. As a journalist I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world. I want this to be a place for everyone to find out about people and organizations that I've encountered that are doing good work. I'd like to share some of my experiences and invite all of you to share your thoughts and stories you think should be told. Let's expand our horizons together!

PLEASE PLEASE READ!!
This link is to one of the most important things I've read in a long time. Please read it and take it seriously. Our news has been filled with tragic news about global disasters. There's something going on folks!!!! It's time that we start taking what's happening much more seriously. In fact, it is dire. Governments need to be doing more. Citizens of the plant, we need to be doing more. After reading, check out: www.350.org

This goes was beyond CO2. If you look things such as refrigerants, their global warming potential (GWP)stomps CO2. In fact, they are looking at C02 to replace other refrigerants. For example, where CO2 has a factor of 1 as a global warming potential, R134a has a factor of over 1400. R12, which is still abundant outside the US and formerly used on our automobiles before R134a, has a global warming factor of even much higher; around 8500. With all the development outside of the US, many of which don't capture vented/leaking devices...much like we used to, this is only going to get worse with increasing temperatures and development.

The other front gathering lots of attention is water vapor. It too has a much larger GWP than CO2 and studies are trying to find how much of this comes from man, and how much of it is naturally occurring.

Add to this the recent research around the sun and changes that are affecting Earth...and you have a lot of variables.

I'm a scientific guy and I prefer to look across the big picture. I think our current political leadership, by just looking at CO2, is doing us an injustice. We need to focus on ALL the underlying issues; not just one. Al Gore's parade (he is NOT a scientist) is a disservice to all of us in that he want to focus on ONE issue that could be causing the problem; rather than focus on all of them. In addition, we should be working on huge projects that provide catalysts to break up CO2 (if we are in that dire of need).

Time to look at the whole problem, not just a part of it.

As Lisa always mentions, and I agree with; time to look beyond the average news report and get all the facts. What they are spoon feeding us is liken to marketing blitz...and folks are profiting big off the CO2 binge. We need to be looking at all items affecting our climate.

The two most major obstacles here are the US government and the Chinese government. Each uses the other's apathy as an excuse to not do anything. We may not be able to completely control what China does, but we can control what we do and set an example.

And so it was that you and I both had another reason to vote Obama. You're in California, which is going blue no matter what, but I've got some work to do in Wisconsin.
