I hope this site becomes a place for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. I want to raise consciousness about issues and stories that don't always make the headlines. I believe that global awareness makes a person smarter and ultimately more human. I'm grossed out by what some "news" outlets masquerade as news. It seems that so many of these outlets cover international stories only when there's catastrophe or war. It's a shame.

There are so many fascinating people doing important things out there. As a journalist I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world. I want this to be a place for everyone to find out about people and organizations that I've encountered that are doing good work. I'd like to share some of my experiences and invite all of you to share your thoughts and stories you think should be told. Let's expand our horizons together!

A trip to one of the most isolated countries on the planet
Child Trafficking: India
In India, there are millions of children who are being forced to work as slaves.

Dear Lisa Ling

May I respectfully ask you to please stop going to Asia such as Taiwan with a Caucasian men trying to save the sharks from becoming a sharking fin soup? Maybe to should hold hands with him while you make everyone at the seaport look like villains (Just kidding)
Have you ever thought about going to the UK with an Asian men to produce a report about Mad cow disease and how some British cattle farm are covering this urgent and horrific disease? Taiwan and China consume shark fin soup just like the French consume foie gra, but I am pretty sure that you are not in a hurry to make a show about how the French over feeds the duck to make this French “delicacy”, and I am guessing that you believe when the French, American and Europeans eat, it must be great and wonderful for the entire world.
Like you stated in the show, hunting shark fin to make soup is not illegal, nor is eating red meat in Texas. Sharks are not endanger specifies and it has been part of Chinese cuisine for thousands of year.

I am not asking nor telling how to you do your jobs, just to be fair since I have the most admiration to your work so far.

Sincerely

Mr. Lee
Taipei, Taiwan.

Hi Lisa. Your topics of interests speak millions about the kind of person you are. I'm living vicariously through you. I wanted to invite you though, to either write your story or be interviewed for a book project I recently started. I am getting testimonials on how the Barack Obama victory affected people's consciousness on the topic of race. Would you be interested? I know you are highly demanded and very busy, but I thought I would ask anyway. You may e-mail me at genevievemaignan@bellsouth.net.
I do hope I hear from you.
Kind regards,
Genevieve

Hello Lisa,

I was just talking about you to my coworker and decided I'd look you up and lo and behold you have your own web site. I shouldn't be suprised you've been so successful since I first saw you during high school on Channel 1. I've always liked watching an intelligent and driven woman succeed and you are definetly both. I wish people would realize the difference between the negativity inspired news culture in America and your heartfelt stories of the problems and decisions we face today as a country and as a world.

Anyway, keep up the good work. You always get a little more dazzling and inspirational. I'll try to sneak a TV into work for watching your stories to simulate those old Channel 1 days. :)

Still Crushing,

Joseph

Lisa:

My name is Jennifer. I am a freelance writer for Mei Magazine, a magazine for girls adopted from Asia. The magazine tries to include a role-model interview in each issue. You would be a wonderful role model for the girls. Would you consider being interviewed? You can find the magazine's web-site at meimagazine.com. Thank you.

dear lisa,

Please do a documentary and help stop INNOCENT US citizen going to jail. And hope that our local Government will DECRIMINALIZE the Gamefowl sport in agricultural areas/rural areas , regulate and tax it.
Currently, chicken slaughter houses are legal and kills 100% compared to gamefowl sport 50 % for chicken to live life to the fullest..

Although I usually enjoy your work, I was disappointed in the gist of Marijuana Nation. Namely when you used marijuana & hemp in the same sentence like they were the same thing. PLEASE do more research. The marijuana that's smoked is not the hemp used to make paper, rope, clothes, etc. Although I think both should be legalized, talking about them as the same thing just perpetuates the myth. The uses of hemp need to be explored for our future. I beg you to look into this and do another report. I could say so much more...

Caught Marijuana Nation tonight. You did a great job on it, could tell you took great pains to stay neutral on the matter.

The only thing I'd say negatively is that I don't know that it'll change too many minds. I think both sides of the debate are just going to see what they want to see- the marijuana proponents will see societies that have shown tolerance to be better off for it (Oaksterdam would be a good example), the marijuana opponents will see a huge operation for what is claimed as three users and go 'yeah, right, that's just what he'd say to the media', and then they see some kinda dopey-looking faces on people during use, and that's all they're going to notice.

If there are undecideds, they could certainly be swayed one way or the other, but I don't see too many people who've made up their minds being able to see the other side.

Dear Lisa, here a little message from Holland. Forgive my English. I think your great. I saw most of your reports for Oprah. Today the show about heroin addicted family.
The non jugemental comments you made struck me. I am a nurse and see a lot of problems and pain coming from addictions of any kind. Also the other reports show your great heart and your great currage. My goodness, the show about the prisons, very intens.
I am a fan!!
Greetings

Hi Lisa!

I was flipping through TV today and i saw you on Oprah. Started wondering what you have been up to and did a google search which led me here. Nice site, love your energy, it's still off the charts! Glad to see you are expressing yourself artistically through your photos and poems. You're still one of the most beautiful women inside and out I've ever seen. Hope life is treating you well. I'd love to hear from you anytime.

Dear Lisa,
You have no idea what an impact you've made in my life. You are my HERO! I've been interested in your work since I was in middle school watching Channel One. I always looked up to you and hoped that one day I'd make a difference like you had. I hope to continue seeing your work. Thank you for being such an inspiration to our generation!

Hi Lisa,

Great Job last night with KJ's ceremony! BTW, I spent several years working in Cambodia and have a fascinating story about the children living along the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers.

Heart-wrenching stories that leave the viewer feeling helpless because they are not tied to any direct or indirect action.

Hi Lisa

You spoke at PBWC today and made an impact more than you know. Like you, the news outlets have turned me off to most of their programming because frankly, I don't care who married whom and who forgot underwear before going out clubbing.

Thank you for your time today. My new motto is "Ask people, including myself, at least one thought provoking question a day"

Hi Lisa,

I saw you on a video trail of "Vincent Who?" and looked you up.

Vincent was my father's cousin. His story, his legacy, his life ended too short has had profound impact on who I am today. Not just because he was part of my extended family.

People say I have an inspiring story to tell (immigrant, cancer survivor at 24, philanthropist. I'm all but 32), but people like you are the true inspiration. For your attempts to bring awareness and put the facts in front of people, to make a difference, to make the voices of those less vocal heard. Thank you for all that you do.

I would love to hear from you.

Lisa, don't you get a bit angry when web sites have your biography all messed up? Like this one for your Sacramento speech this week.

Biography
"A Sacramento native, Lisa Ling is a highly-acclaimed journalist and television personality best known for her role as a co-host of ABC's The View. She currently hosts the National Geographic Channel's Explorer, serves as a reporter on Channel One News, and is a special correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show."

Full article is at:
http://www.pbwc.org/conference/speakers-1/speakers /lisa-ling/?searchterm="Lisa%20Ling"

I think this shows an extreme lack of respect for you by these "web journalists" who need to do a better job.

Just my opinion...

Hi Lisa - I just attended the JLH Luncheon that you spoke at in Waikiki earlier today and must say that you are truly impressive! I left feeling inspired and hopeful that I too can make a difference. Thank you for continuing to seek out newsworthy world issues and striving to better educate Americans on the world as a whole. Come back to Hawaii soon! Mahalo & Aloha! - Megan
